Structural waterproofing (tanking)
Structural Waterproofing, or Tanking as it is commonly known, takes various forms and is required when lateral damp penetration occurs to earth retaining or partially earth retaining walls, for example cellars and basements, or where external ground levels are higher than those internally and cannot be reduced. Dampness or in some cases, free flowing water, migrates through any construction type that has not been previously treated.
This leads to dampness on internal finishes or even flooding. BS8102 (1990) for the Protection of Structures Against Water from the Ground have four grades known as degrees of watertightness, which dictate that the control of dampness or free flowing water must be controlled according to the individual environment and specific site conditions so that the area is "fit for purpose".
Darroch Remedial Inspections provide a full structural waterproofing survey and design package which gives the customer all possible options for below ground waterproofing, whether it be a small cellar needed for storage right through to complete retro-fit basement systems.
The proprietor of Darroch Remedial Inspections is one of only approximately 150 people in the country who hold the CSSW qualification (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing). This is awarded by the Institute of Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing, which is the training and examination board of the BWPDA (British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association) now known as the PCA (Property Care Association). This ensures that the individuals qualified adhere to strict industry guidelines and are competent in their field.
Examples of structural waterproofing or tanking include: cementitious render systems such as Vandex or Sovereign K11, multi-coat renders such as Sika, epoxy resin systems such as Vapourguard and cavity drained membrane systems such as Delta or Newton.
Darroch Remedial Inspections will attend site, observe conditions and discuss your individual requirements and expectations, to then advise accordingly on feasibility. A full written report with a tailored specification, along with drawings, diagrams, photos and estimated costs for budgeting purposes will then be issued. We also offer a continued service to oversee your project from start to finish, if required, to tackle individual problems as and where they may arise.
